Christine Fréchette's decisive victory in the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) leadership election on April 12, with approximately 58% of the vote over rival Bernard Drainville, has solidified trader consensus at 99.8% for her as Quebec's next premier. As leader of the CAQ, which holds a majority in the National Assembly, Fréchette will succeed François Legault, who resigned in January amid declining popularity ahead of the October provincial election. This internal party process ensures her swift transition without requiring a general election. While her position appears unassailable, late-breaking scenarios such as unforeseen health issues, legal challenges, or a rare party revolt could theoretically shift odds, though none are evident.
